The Future Of Our Trails & Club
Well folks, this season youll probably notice a
concerted effort to increase our diminishing membership through
advertising in newspapers, and along our trails. Although
advertising will definitely help, we also need each and every (current)
club member to make a personal commitment to help expand membership as
well. Each of us should have a goal of bringing in at least one
new member this season.
Certainly all of us know a few people who enjoy
riding in and around this area, yet theyre not club members. And
a two-minute conversation simply letting them know the reality
of our situation may be all thats needed to inspire them to join this
worthy cause. Of course that reality is pretty simple
not enough
members at meetings to even hold elections, and only a few people have
been available to help mark & maintain trails. If something
doesnt change, the few members who are shouldering the load will soon
get burned out, and Greenville area riders may soon have no snowmobile
club, and therefore no trails to ride.
We all know that part of the problem has been the
lack of snow in recent years, but we will have good snow
years once again. And if those of us who have kept our memberships
current (even through the slow times) just take that extra step and talk
to a non-member friend or two, we certainly can keep this club viable
for many years to come! So stay positive and think snow,
but please also stay active in your recruitment efforts as well
remember
just one new member!
You can print a copy of the membership application
from our club website www.green-knights.com, our call Dave Cyr
(757-----) for the form to be mailed, emailed, or faxed.
Thanks for your help.

GREEN KNIGHTS SEPTEMBER, '03
NEWSLETTER
www.green-knights.com
First Meeting 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, at the Municipal
Building across the street from the Greenville Fire Dept.
With such nice weather these days, it's hard to believe that
preparations for the upcoming snowmobiling season are underway. But it
is necessary to start early to be fully prepared by the first snow fall.
Fund Raiser
During the summer, club officers met five times to organize this year's
fund raiser, a snowmobile grass drag race at Spaulding Excavating on
September 20 starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending around 4:00 p.m. This
race is the first of six grass drags in the area this fall planned by
various snowmobile clubs.
As the attached membership form indicates, we need volunteers on Sept.
13, 20, and 21 for various activities associated with this race.
If willing to volunteer on any one of these dates, please notify Terry
Jachowicz ( ) or return the attached membership form showing your
area of interest.
Trail maintenance reimbursement from the DNR is not sufficient to cover
all grooming expenses. Membership fees are a break-even proposition and
not a moneymaker. The club needs successful fund raisers to help pay for
insurance, fuel, equipment repairs, landowner gifts, etc. So please show
your support to make this a successful event.
Thank you,

Next Meeting 7:30 p.m.
this Sunday, February 8 at the Greenville Station
While smoking is permitted
in the main bar, members at last month's meeting voted not to allow
smoking in the back room where we meet. Thus our meetings going forward
will be "smoke free".
In all likelihood, the AWSC
will raise their dues next year from $6.00 to $10.00 per member. Our
club members voted to keep next year's dues the same as this year
despite the anticipated increase from AWSC.
This past week, Leon
Seifert and Terry Jachowicz snowmobiled in the Newberry-Paradise-Grand
Marais, Upper Michigan areas. Since it was mid-week, trails were quite
good with plenty of snow the further north they went. Local businesses
indicated the number of snowmobiles on weekends is probably an all time
high as there are so few areas in multiple states with open trails.
Safety Courses for 12-16
year olds: Although many other clubs offer safety courses, these courses
are well attended and fill quickly. Additional instructors are needed.
Jessica Buman is obtaining an instructor certificate which involves
attending one of these classes and starting as an assistant to an
instructor. Jessica ( ) is seeking one additional volunteer from
the Green-Knights to become an instructor to assist in this educational
effort. Please call Jessica if interested.

Next Meeting 7:30 p.m. on
Sunday, January 12 at the Greenville Station
Over the last two years,
our membership has dropped from 84 to 46 members currently. As club
president, I would like to reverse this trend. If anyone has
suggestions to make the club run better or make the club more fun, I'd
like to hear them. I would like to see the club back to the kind of
club where we are happy to be a part of it and look forward to club
events and meetings.
If anyone feels attendance
at meetings would improve by not permitting smoking in the meeting room
or moving to a non-smoking location such as the Town Hall, please let me
know.
I (Jessica Buman) can
be reached at home or by e-mail
Dbuman@new.rr.com I look forward to
your feedback.
Discussions have started on
our next fundraiser so please be present to share your views at the
January 12 meeting.
Our Christmas party was
held on December 8 at the Greenville Station with food ordered off the
menu rather than buffet. This seemed to work very well without an
increase in cost.
Trail marking has been
completed thanks to lots of hours by Dan Buman and others. Trail
blazers were added to the backside of all stakes. Lots of extra stakes
were installed to make our trail system easily visible day or night. A
highly visible trail is a safer trail to ride.
Your AWSC membership card
is enclosed with this newsletter if your dues were paid before October
24. Hopefully remaining AWSC cards will be mailed in time for the
February newsletter.
The AWSC is pushing a $4.00
dues increase for next year thus raising their membership fee from
current $6.00 to $10.00 We need to discuss its impact on our annual
dues.
Considering the absence of
snow everywhere, there isn't anything more to say. See you on January
12.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
A great big thank you goes out to all the members and non-members who
helped with the fund-raiser on Saturday October 26. There was a lot of

we had a great turn out of members and non- members who helped to tend
bar, run for supplies, sell tickets and keep things running smoothly.
Then on Sunday we were all back there for the worst part, CLEAN UP! I
believe that everyone who attended had a great time, and it wouldnt
have been possible with out all your help.
TRAIL MARKING
Trail marking has been set for Saturday November 16. We will meet at the

wheelers and sledgehammers. Our first priority will be fixing any broken
signs and making sure we have what we need to mark the trails. As we did
last year we will separate into groups and start in different
directions. This not only stops us from crossing each others tracks,
but saved us a lot of time.

June 27 7:00 at the Greenville Station Club meeting for fund-raiser
Summer
has been off to a slow start, but I hope everyone can finally enjoy the
nice weather we are having now. Lets just hope this weather only
sticks around through summer this year and doesnt leave its mark on
winter again.
The
reason you are receiving this newsletter in June is because through
several board of directors meetings we have finally come up with a
fund-raiser.
We will
be hosting a Halloween dance on October 26 at the new Lions park. We
will feature Bogi and the Yo Yos, and have a costume contest. We are
currently looking for volunteers to help with a variety of jobs,
including set-up, tending bar, selling food, judging the contest, ticket
sales, security and clean-up. You will find enclosed a sign up form.
Please indicate what you will be willing to help with, or if you cant
help at all. We would love to have 100% club participation on this as
this will be our chance to show the community who we are and what we can
do as a club. We will be having a meeting every month from now until the
date of the event. If you have any suggestions or ideas that might help
us like advertising info., other events in the area or general thoughts
please include these when you return your form.

I know, I

well.
The
remaining brushing and clean up of the Wiouwash has been slated for
November or December of 2002.
There are
also several land issues we need to discuss at the next meeting,
including Dorschners and Edwards properties.
FUNDRAISERS
We have
had several good ideas for fundraisers including toad suck daze, a
calendar with daily payoffs, and a competition kind of like Pete and Joe

ideas are being discussed and as you can see no idea is to weird!!!!

TRAIL MAINTENANACE
We have tentatively

SNOWMOBILING
I was all ready to make
copies and send this out when all of a sudden a storm hit. Well after
digging out of the snow on Friday morning I heard GREAT news the trails
are open! I went out and got my sled ready and noticing that it was
almost empty, I went to get some gas at the local station. Trails were
only open a short time and already I saw 18 snowmobiles pass me going in
the opposite direction. Out of these 18 sleds do you know how many of
them used their hand signals? ONE! One snowmobiler used his hand signals
and guess what! He was all-alone. Please remember to use your signals if
you are not sure what the correct signals are call me I will send them
out to you. P.S. please ride safely.
YELLOWSTONE
As some of you may know
there is always the debate of closing Yellowstone. They are now telling
us that the principal problem is that there is not enough septic tank
capacity in the winter. If this park becomes totally off limit to
snowmobiler's, closure of other national parks such as the Chequameqon
and Nicolet national forests are sure to follow. We ask you to please
voice your opposition to the closure of Yellowstone to snowmobiles. You
may send your comments to

FUNDRAISER
We are still looking for
ideas for a club fund-raiser we heard some great ideas at the last

the winter. Lots of clubs have them year round and sometimes consist of
a brat fry.

huge thank you to all of you who came out and lent a helping hand on
Dec. 1, 2, 15, 16, 22 marking trails and brushing the Wiouwash.
It took us a little longer than we had planned but with every
ones hard work and determination we finished the trail and shouldnt
have to brush again for several years except for minor yearly clean up!
A big hand and thank you goes out to the following club members:
Russ Buman, Gordy, Dan and Jessica Buman, Brian Wunderlich, Ron
Fronek, Jay Mews, Paul Buman, Conrad Becher, Terry Jachowicz, Leon
Seifert, Andy Becher, Ron Nussbaum, Chad Springstroh, David Lane, Dave
Stenz, Al Vollmer, Penny Van Eperen, Cory Heiting, Ray Taubel and Brian
Sundby. We would also like
to extend our gratitude to the following non-members who showed up to
help: Arden Kloehn, Kim Fronek, Derek Fronek, Pat Ratsberg, Jesse
Wunderlich. If I have
forgotten anyone I apologize ahead of time.
There were a lot of hard workers out there and it was hard to
keep track of everyone every weekend.
If you see any of these people please take a minute to thank them
and let them know their hard work was appreciated.
We would also like to thank everyone who donated
the use of their chainsaws and vehicles, Gordy for the use of your
front-end loader, Consolidated Construction for their basket and a huge
thank you to Beaver Huss and Michaels Materials for the use of their
chippers.
GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

still do not have a club fund-raiser this year, so everyone please bring
your ideas to the next meeting. Everyone is talking and hearing about what other clubs and
organizations are doing for fund-raisers, lets see if some of these
ideas will work for us.
