The Problem:
As you may be aware, Greenville is in the midst of a tremendous growth
spurt in terms of development and population, and several parts of our
trail system have already been cut-off as a result of snowmobile trails
not being part of Town land use planning in the past. Even the main
trail linking to the Wiouwash
nature trail could be affected in the not so distant future.
Complicating the
matter, our membership has been decreasing for several years due to poor
snow conditions, and with fewer snowmobilers attending meetings, it's
hard to get the word out and work on solutions.
The Solution(s):
A real
opportunity is at hand right now. Development is coming on strong, but
we have a Greenville Planning Commission that has shown a desire to
preserve the rural character in much of Greenville, and that includes
snowmobile trails.
Greenville already has a “Green Print” Land Use/Resource map that
identifies the railroad through town, and powerline easements on
undeveloped lands, as potential trail opportunities in the future.
Before much more development takes place, it’s a good time to start
talking seriously about such opportunities.
We very
much need the many who use our trails to be willing to
join the club, to be informed and ready to attend (as a group)
future Town meetings -- at which the Green Knights will seek the
Planning Commission's help in preserving (and even expanding to new
subdivisions) snowmobile trail corridors in Greenville. Preserving a
trail system
is an asset to Greenville and surrounding areas -- to the
recreational opportunities and character.
So the bottom
line is... it's up to you. What we really need now is your
membership and input. So please take a moment right now and
join the Green Knights.
Wisconsin
snowmobile clubs are solely responsible for working with each landowner
for permissions and trail location every single year -- as well as
marking, grooming, and maintaining snowmobile trails in the state.
If you ride trails, and you want to keep them, you really need to be a
member of a club to support your sport. Without clubs, there just
simply are no trails.
Thanks for
supporting your trail system!
